What is Patent Leather and why to choose it ?

What is Patent Leather?

Patent leather is a type of leather which is highly polished with a glossy surface. The surface is typically waterproof or water resistant, and it protects the underlying leather.

Because of its sheen, Patent leather is frequently used in more formal and dress leather goods such as shoes, handbags, belts etc.

This lustrous surface is susceptible to scratches and requires proper maintenance. Patent Leather was originally produced using natural leather that has been coated in various oils.
Today, it may be made in any colour and is used on a wide range of leather goods including boots, handbags, purses, pants, skirts, costumes, belts, watch bands, hats, backpacks, glasses cases, wallets and more!

How to Care for Patent Leather Shoes

Patent leather shoes require some special care in order to keep them looking their best for a long time.

Step 1: Prep

Remove the laces and insert wooden shoe trees so they're free from moisture and mould back to its original shape.

Step 2: Clean

With a polishing cloth, apply some leather cleaner and apply onto the shoe using circular motions. This will remove any stains or marks.

Patent leather is extremely fragile, with most of the signs of deterioration, such as fractures and significant scratches, being irreversible.

Step 3: Nourish

Grab a welt brush, dip it into some conditioning wax and apply to the shoe. This step is very significant. It protects the stitching from being dried out. We surely don't want the shoe sole to collapse.

Step 4: Hydrate

Patent leather is totally waterproof.
Use patent leather polish on a cloth, and make a smooth massage on the shoe. Leave to dry for at least 20 minutes. That step is very important if you want to keep a soft surface and prevent cracks or other marks from weathered over time shoes.

Patent leather shoes are a great investment because they are easy to care for, long lasting, and look very polished and formal. They look perfect on special occasions, so they're worth investing in for the long haul! With proper care, your patent leather shoes will last for many years.
